Code of Conduct

Our community is built on respect, inclusivity, and collaboration. This Code of Conduct outlines expectations for all community members.

Our Commitment

The XOOPS community is committed to providing a welcoming and inspiring community for all. We pledge that everyone participating in this community will be treated with respect and their contributions valued.

Expected Behavior

Be Respectful

  • Treat all community members with respect and kindness
  • Value diverse perspectives and experiences
  • Listen actively to others’ viewpoints
  • Disagree professionally and constructively

Be Inclusive

  • Welcome contributors of all backgrounds and skill levels
  • Use inclusive language
  • Provide opportunities for new contributors
  • Support underrepresented voices in tech

Be Collaborative

  • Focus on what is best for the community
  • Help fellow contributors succeed
  • Share knowledge and experience
  • Celebrate others’ achievements

Be Professional

  • Keep discussions focused and on-topic
  • Provide constructive feedback
  • Acknowledge and learn from mistakes
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered unacceptable:

Harassment and Discrimination

  • Offensive comments based on personal characteristics (gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, nationality)
  • Unwelcome sexual attention or advances
  • Deliberate intimidation or threats
  • Sustained disruption of discussions
  • Trolling or deliberately provocative behavior

Abuse and Attacks

Section titled “Abuse and Attacks”
  • Personal attacks or insults
  • Public or private harassment
  • Publishing others’ private information without permission
  • Deliberately damaging someone’s reputation

Inappropriate Content

Section titled “Inappropriate Content”
  • Sexually explicit or violent content
  • Content that violates intellectual property or privacy rights
  • Spam or commercial solicitation
  • Promotion of illegal activities

Bad Faith Engagement

Section titled “Bad Faith Engagement”
  • Deliberate misinformation or spreading false claims
  • Sockpuppeting (creating fake accounts to manipulate discussions)
  • Brigading or coordinating to disrupt discussions
  • Abusing reporting mechanisms

Scope

Section titled “Scope”

This Code of Conduct applies to:

  • All XOOPS repositories and project spaces
  • Official discussion forums and communication channels
  • Events and meetups affiliated with XOOPS
  • Social media discussions about XOOPS
  • Interactions between community members in any context related to XOOPS

Reporting and Enforcement

Reporting Violations

Section titled “Reporting Violations”

If you witness or experience a violation of this Code of Conduct:

  1. Document the incident - Note what happened, when, who was involved
  2. Report to maintainers - Email: conduct@xoops.org
  3. Provide context - Include links, screenshots, or other evidence if available
  4. Request confidentiality - If desired, request that your identity be kept private

Investigation Process

When a report is received:

  1. The report will be acknowledged within 48 hours
  2. A preliminary assessment will determine if further investigation is needed
  3. The reporter will be updated on the status (with confidentiality respected)
  4. A decision and enforcement action will be communicated

Enforcement Actions

Section titled “Enforcement Actions”

Enforcement actions may include:

  • Warning - A private discussion about the violation
  • Temporary suspension - Loss of privileges for 7-30 days
  • Permanent ban - Removal from the community
  • Law enforcement - For serious offenses (threats, harassment, etc.)

Moderation Guidelines

Community moderators will:

  • Respond promptly to violations
  • Apply consistent standards fairly
  • Explain decisions clearly
  • Consider context and intent
  • Allow appeals of decisions
  • Maintain confidentiality when appropriate

Conflict Resolution

Section titled “Conflict Resolution”

When conflicts arise between community members:

  1. Direct communication - Try to resolve the issue directly first
  2. Involve a moderator - If direct communication fails
  3. Mediation - Moderators will facilitate a discussion
  4. Decision - If needed, moderation leadership will make a final decision

Appeals Process

Section titled “Appeals Process”

If you believe an enforcement decision was unfair:

  1. Submit an appeal - Email conduct@xoops.org within 7 days
  2. Explain your position - Provide additional context or evidence
  3. Review by leadership - A different team will review the appeal
  4. Notification - You’ll be informed of the decision within 7 days
